About Us

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful      بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ,

Muslim Reentry Initiative (M.R.I.). M.R.I. is a recently formed nonprofit organization based in New Orleans. Although we are a relatively new organization, we are working closely with many of the forerunners/pioneers of the Islamic prison ministry here in Louisiana. Some of these brothers and sisters have been involved in this work for 40+ years. We know that we could not/cannot do this work without the foundations laid by these individuals and others like them who are still on the frontlines. Alhamdulillah.

Muslim Reentry initiative (M.R.I.) is a community collective, a network of concerned Muslims who have come together with the goal of better assisting our incarcerated brothers and sisters. We believe in the transformative and reformative power of Islam and know that within its teachings are the solutions needed to address the issues of incarceration and recidivism.

The mission of the Muslim Reentry Initiative (M.R.I.) is to reinforce the bridge of relationship between incarcerated Muslims and Muslims in society. By providing a sense of community and connection, M.R.I. aims to help bridge the gap between Muslim inmates and society at large. This sense of community and connection can offer those incarcerated the hope and possibility of a more successful and productive future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Our goal is to provide FULL-SCALE Islamic prison ministry and reentry services. To operate as an umbrella organization, a resource bank to better assist Muslim inmates both during and after incarceration. We believe that by organizing our resources and efforts, as a Community, we will be able to better fulfill this fard kifayah (communal obligation) here in the State of Louisiana.
